Roadrunner Rundown - Thanksgiving Break!

Roadrunner Families,

We have so much to be thankful for as we approach our Thanksgiving Break. After nearly seven and a half years at our school, I continue to be so grateful to serve as the principal of Russell Lee Elementary School and be a part of this caring and creative community. As a reminder, there is no school the week of November 22nd and we will see everyone back on Monday, November 29th.

Speaking of something to be thankful for, the COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children ages 5-11! Students can get their free COVID-19 vaccine this Saturday at a districtwide vaccine clinic hosted by Austin ISD and Vax Together Austin. This is the safe and effective way to make sure kids are protected from COVID-19. The clinic will be held from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Austin ISD Central Office - 4000 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78704. There will be no adult vaccines or boosters at this event, as this is a first-dose clinic for ages 5-11 only.

Appointments are highly recommended. There will be a limited number of walk up vaccines available from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration and more information. This clinic will feature therapy dogs from The Dog Alliance to help our small patients keep calm during their vaccination. We welcome everyone to take advantage of these free vaccination opportunities from AISD.

Lastly, as a campus community we have been fortunate enough to welcome a number of families from Afghanistan to our school in recent weeks. While it has been a challenging transition, our Roadrunners have done such an amazing job of embracing our new students. The warm reception that they have received over multiple grade levels has been a beautiful thing to be a part of and I am grateful to be at a school that is such a welcoming place.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday,
