Lee PE Program

PE Teacher - Coach Wyss - librada.wyss@austinisd.org

Our PE program provides every Roadrunner with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to develop healthy habits that include proper nutrition and physical activity for a lifetime. We strive to create a fun, safe, and engaging environment where every child can grow physically, socially, and emotionally.

Throughout the school year, our PE program offers exciting events that build fitness, school spirit, and a sense of community. Families can look forward to favorites like Cosmic Week,Turkey Trot, DrumFit, Marathon Kids, and Lee Olympics, our annual Track and Field Day. In addition to these special events, each grade level participates in performances and programs throughout the year in collaboration with our music teacher, giving our Roadrunners opportunities to celebrate and showcase their learning.

Our mission is to inspire our students to become lifelong learners of health and wellness by participating in activities that encourage healthy decision-making, teamwork, respect, and lifelong physical fitness both in and outside of school. We look forward to partnering with our families to help every child build healthy habits that will last a lifetime!

Marathon Kids- Marathon Kids is an Austin-based nonprofit that has inspired Austin ISD students to stay active and build healthy habits through running for more than 20 years.Throughout the school year, our Roadrunners work toward running the equivalent of up to four marathons (104.8 miles) or more. As they reach each marathon milestone (26.2 miles), they earn certificates and prizes to celebrate their accomplishments and encourage them to keep moving. To add a little friendly competition, classes also compete each month for the Golden Sneaker Award. At the end of every month, the class that has accumulated the most miles earns the Golden Sneaker and gets to display it proudly until the next monthly challenge!

Fitnessgram:This is a comprehensive fitness assessment that is required for our 3rd through 5th grade scholars. It includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests designed to assess cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. We do a diagnostic test in September and then do the final test in April/May. Between those months, our Roadrunners work towards improving their scores, increasing their fitness levels, and becoming healthier.

These are the six assessments items:

  • 20 Meter PACER shuttle run (measures aerobic capacity)
  • Push-ups (measures upper body muscular strength/endurance)
  • Curl-ups (measures abdominal muscular strength/endurance)
  • Sit and Reach (measures flexibility)
  • Trunk Lift (measures trunk extensor strength and flexibility)
  • Body Mass Index (measures body composition: appropriateness of weight relative to height)
