Roadrunner Families,
I want to start by sharing the joyful news of the arrival of Beau Rangel! Coach Rangel and her husband Roy welcomed Beau into this world on Tuesday afternoon. We want to congratulate them both and wish Coach Rangel the very best during her maternity leave through mid February. Beau’s arrival was well timed after a very successful Roadrunner Fun Run last week. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great day of fun and fitness!
We are a little over a week away from our PTA Fall Carnival and the excitement is building! The fun will kick off next Saturday at 11:00 am and we are recommending a staggered start with our little ones from Kinder and 1st grade starting things off, followed by 2nd and 3rd at 11:45, 4th and 5th at 12:30. We recognize that many of our families have Roadrunners at multiple grade levels, so feel free to sign up for the time slot that works best for your family. Our goal is to provide a fun and festive event, while doing our best to control the number of people on campus at any time. The Carnival will be held entirely outdoors and be in coordination with our annual Book Fair presented by everyone’s favorite Librarian, Jenny Day! We will not be serving food and the AISD mask requirement will be in place for all attendees. We are planning to have a Pumpkin Carving Contest, a wide variety of safe carnival games and some creative ways to show off everyone’s amazing costumes. The carnival experience will conclude with a "Trunk or Treat" for Roadrunners of all ages in our main parking lot. We will be sharing the sign-ups for different ticket times and volunteer opportunities. Anyone within the Roadrunner Family who has a cool car that they would like to have in our "Trunk or Treat" attraction, please reach out to me directly. We will also be putting out the call for inflatable Halloween decorations to adorn the campus during our event. I was able to spin some spooky tunes today at lunch to celebrate another great week and get everyone ready for what will be a fantastic Fall Carnival. We look forward to seeing you all!
Report cards for this first grading period have been finalized and will be available through the Parent Portal soon. Within the portal, you can click on Student Documentation to access them. If you have any issues with locating them, feel free to reach out to the AISD Parent Support Line at 512-414-9187. While we have transitioned to digital report cards as a district, we can print out a copy for any family who would like that option. Additionally, we have been asked to share the attached Updates in Special Education Information Sheet with all families. It contains important information on the process for requesting an evaluation for Special Education. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our start time of 7:40. Along with our 6th Grade Safety Patrol, we work really hard to make sure our morning drop off goes as smoothly as possible but we are seeing quite a few of our students arriving well after the sound of the tardy bell in the morning. This results in them not being a part of their morning meeting and is disruptive for our outstanding Office Team, who has plenty to be working on each day. We are coordinating with the Attendance Specialist for the McCallum Vertical Team on strategies to get everyone to school on time and will be sending out notices to families who have multiple tardies or absences. Once that number reaches a certain level for students, we are required to take additional steps through the court system. We ask that all families take the necessary steps to get their students to school on time so we are all able to start our day of learning together.
Have a wonderful weekend,
