Austin ISD screens students in grades K-12 for the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program. The GT program includes both GT STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), for students identified as gifted in math and/or science, and GT Humanities, for students identified as gifted in language arts and/or social studies. There is also the Talent Exploration STEM and Humanities program which supports high-ability students who do not reach the full AISD GT qualifications.
If you are interested in nominating your child for the GT program, please inform your child’s teacher. The screening process follows district protocols and include several steps: nomination, screening, selection, online testing, teacher input, and the common district assessment. See below for a timeline of events for this screening.
For more information on the gifted and talented program at AISD, see the AISD website or ask your child’s teacher.
