Off-site After School Child Care

Spilled Milk Social Club (SMSC)

Running in conjunction with AISD’s school year calendar, spilled milk social club operates as an after-school program whose mission is to promote confidence, independence, and higher level thinking skills through the integration of creativity into all facets of daily life. By actively purporting our collective belief that “everyone has the capacity to be creative,” our students are encouraged toward self-expression with various media. For the 2019-20 school year, SMSC will offer pick-up from Lee, Brentwood and Mathews Elementary Schools, though families from ANY school are welcome to make alternate transportation arrangements.

Students arrive between 3:05 and 3:45 to the facility (depending on which school they attend). At this time, they get settled in, are offered a snack, start working on their homework, and find an activity to begin. From 3:45 to 4:15, students whose parents want them to do homework at SMSC will be encouraged to do so during our (relatively) “quiet time”. From 4:15 till 6 pm, when the program closes for the day, students can work individually and in groups on creative products, play outside on the premises, and/or have free time in our facility at 3310 Red River Street.

Hancock Recreation Center

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department offers after school programs for the community that foster youth development in a safe and caring environment. Our goal is to create opportunities for Kindergarten (5 years old) -12 years old to engage in critical thinking and exercise decision-making skills. The four core components of our after school programs include a healthy snack, active play, enrichment and homework help.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 2:45-6:00pm, except on City of Austin or school holidays. Students ride in a City of Austin 15 passenger van from Lee Elementary to Hancock Recreation Center. For more information or to register, please contact a center near you.
